Are you planning a city trip to Rome and want to visit the best hotspots in Rome? Then I have some tips for you!
Colosseum
When you think of Rome, you think of the Colosseum, but you also think of all the tourists. Although there are some, the Colosseum is still worth visiting. I would recommend going there either around ten in the morning, or in the late afternoon/early evening, when the sun is low. That is when the Colosseum is at its most beautiful. I personally found it very less than usual with the amount of tourists in general, I was there in February 2022 and it was really quiet at times. It is also highly recommended to go in February, then the tourists are not so bad and it is not incredibly hot. I myself have not been in the Colosseum, I found it a waste of money and I'm glad I did. Everyone's own personal thing of course, but I don't think it's worth your money unless you like history. You might as well sit down somewhere on a terrace opposite the Colosseum, because then you really have a beautiful view!
Forum Romanum
I decided not to buy tickets for Forum Romanum and in retrospect I am very happy about that. When you walk past, you can actually see most of it and with tickets you can get closer, but personally I don't think it's worth the money. So I recommend just walking past and leave the tickets for what they are.
Trevi Fountain
This is truly the most beautiful fountain I have seen in my life. Unfortunately, it seems like it's always crowded. It's always packed. Even late at night. Therefore, I would recommend going there around ten o'clock in the morning. Although there were already quite a few people, you could still take some nice pictures. At ten o'clock it is not so full that you can barely walk. So if you want to visit the Trevi Fountain, you should really go in the morning, because otherwise it is really less fun.

Thee Spanish Steps
If anything was a disappointment, it was the Spanish Steps. I really found nothing special about it. We were lucky that there was a musician playing, which gave a little more of a vibe, but you are not allowed to sit there, and if you do, the police will call you on it. I think in my case it didn't help that we were already there in February. Because of this, there were no flowers, but if you have to cross things off your list, delete the Spanish Steps. Do you have enough time? Then it won't hurt to take a look for yourself, as the church on top is quite beautiful and so is the view from it. Plus, it's fairly close to other hotspots.

This was before the police came.
Vatican City
Even if you are not religious, Vatican City is still worth visiting. Therefore, I strongly recommend it. In addition, I recommend going inside St. Peter's Basilica as well. This is also free so that's nice. And it is so incredibly impressive. I did have a tour of the basilica, I really thought this was worth my money because I learned so much more about all the art. So if you have a lot of interest in art I would recommend a tour. If you don't have much interest, I don't think you would do it because it would be too drawn out.
In Vatican City, the Vatican Museum, which is a little further than the basilica, is also worth visiting. While booking my trip to Rome, I actually didn't want to go to the museum, but because I wanted to go to the Sistine Chapel, I did and I didn't regret it. There was a lot of beautiful art in this museum and you can't help but be amazed. It felt like I was walking around in my art history book. With the impressive Sistine Chapel at the end. The same applies to this museum, you have to love art. However, in this museum there is a lot of different types of art, so there is something for everyone.
