Don't want to spend too much during your trip in Rome? Then I have the perfect tips for you here!
Colosseum
First of all, you don't have to buy tickets to the Coliseum, in my opinion it doesn't have a lot of added value unless you have a lot of interest in history. Then it is nice to buy a ticket. Without a ticket you can also admire the Colosseum, possibly from a terrace opposite. I tried a few and the drinks were a little more expensive for the view, so if you're really traveling on a budget, I'd pass on those drinks. However, at Ristoracaffe, across from the Colosseum, you could get a delicious full breakfast for not too much. For about 10 euros you got fresh orange juice, coffee, bread with spreads and an egg.
Hotspots to walk by
The Trevi Fountain is one of the most famous places in Rome and of course this is also free. Are you a real morning person? Then I would definitely be at the fountain as early as possible to avoid the crowds. Not really a morning person? Around 10 o'clock it is still doable at the fountain. I do not recommend going in the afternoon, because then it is really busy.

The Pantheon is of course also one of the big hotspots, personally I didn't think it was worth my money to go inside. There is an incredibly long line too, so it takes a lot of time too. So to save some money, you can enjoy walking past the Pantheon and taking some pictures.

The Spanish Steps are of course also free, unfortunately you are not allowed to sit on them. I personally did not find it very special, but it is nice to visit when you have the time.

Piazza Navona is a square with three beautiful fountains and incredibly nice terraces to enjoy the view. In addition, there are churches nearby that you can visit for free. More about this later.
Churches you can visit for free
St. Peter's Basilica
In Vatican City, St. Peter's Basilica is completely free, super nice! If you want to climb up, it will unfortunately cost some money, but the basilica in itself is incredibly beautiful and impressive, so definitely worth a visit. Want to learn more about the basilica? Then I recommend taking a tour, this will cost money.
Santa Maria della Vittoria
This is an incredibly beautiful church, with Bernini's famous artwork called the Ecstasy of Theresa. Definitely worth a visit! In addition, there is a beautiful fountain around the corner from the church. The church is located a bit further from other attractions, but you can easily walk to it and admire the beautiful streets of Rome in the meantime.
Chiesa di San Luigi dei Francesi
This beautiful baroque-style church is located near Piazza Navona (a square with many beautiful works of art and some street performers). The church features several works by Caravaggio. Unfortunately, it was already dark when we were there, so I don't have any good photos.
Sant'Agnese in Agone
This church is located at Piazza Navona and you should definitely go inside. This church also shines in the baroque style and has an overwhelming effect when you walk inside. All the artworks also have signs with information about them, which is very informative. We were there towards evening, so we don't have the best photos. I therefore recommend going during the day.
